Ski Patrol
So, today I got accepted as a candidate for the Arapahoe Basin ski patrol. I’m so excited about it. It sounds like a lot of intensive training next year, but the group was really nice and seem like they’d be great to work with. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, so hopefully I can make it!

Ski season 2007-2008
Yesterday, I logged my 25th day of skiing this year. What amazed me was that, considering it’s mid-May, it was some of the best skiing I’ve had this season. A Basin had just received 5 inches of fresh powder, and it warmed up so there was just enough of a mixture of corn and powder. I hiked up the North Pole gate and did Narrow North Pole and had a blast doing jump turns in powder down the chute.
I’ve fallen in love with A Basin. While it’s a little small, it’s really the only place I can think of that has it all as far as skiing, from bumps to chutes to steep bowls and everything in between. I’ll definitely be getting a Basin pass for next season.
I haven’t decided yet whether yesterday will be my last day of the year, though I am tempted to leave it at that, since it was so excellent.

Where’s Winter?
It’s now 1/3rd of the way through the month of November. Granted, I’ve been crazy busy with work and with editing for USCHO, but what happened to the snow? Heck, even without the cold, we should be getting some. Instead, I haven’t felt the need to dress warmly in any sort of day-to-day time yet. Even if the snow hadn’t come down here, it’d be nice for it to come to the mountains. Instead, A-Basin has four trails open, and Loveland, Keystone and Breckenridge look equally dismal. Give me some snow, for crying out loud. I plan to go out to A-Basin on Tuesday to get a few turns in, but ski season so far has been rather sad. It’s hard to get motivated to ski two trails when it’s 70 degrees down here.

Ski season 2007-2008
So, last week I got a season pass to Arapahoe Basin. I’m looking forward to exploring a new area; the last two years I’ve gotten the Super Pass, and while I love the trees at MJ, it’s time to ski somewhere else, and Montezuma Bowl at A-Basin looks like it’ll be sweet!
Snow is on my brain right now. I-70 got closed yesterday due to accidents caused by snow. Judging by the last couple of years, A-Basin will open in 2-4 weeks, and I’ll be up on the “Blue Ribbon of Death” for my first turns of the year. Can’t wait!!!

Ski season’s here!
Well, the mountains here in Colorado got 2 feet of snow on Thursday. I’ve been itching for ski season and it is just about here. Copper opens next weekend, so I’ll be up there on day 1 getting my first area turns in, unless I decide to go to A-Basin tomorrow.
I’d gotten some turns in September up on St. Marys, so it hasn’t been that long. But skiing is so wonderful. What’s better though is snow. Snow makes everything look so peaceful and beautiful. I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve always had that feeling. Just watching snow fall out the window brings a smile to my face. I know plenty of people don’t like it, but winter is my favorite season, and not just because of ice climbing and skiing. I love the air in winter, the crispness of it. I think winter will always be my favorite season.
